Faith and Generosity as Retired Bishop Jackson Matovu Commissions New Class Block at Naalya SS Lugazi, Receives UGX 2 Million Donation to Mukono Diocese
There are milestones that shape a school’s infrastructure, and there are moments that shape its soul. On 11th/ April / 2026, Naalya Secondary School, Lugazi Campus, experienced both as we hosted Retired Bishop Jackson Matovu for the commissioning of our brand‑new class block. In a remarkable act of gratitude and partnership, the school also presented a donation of Two Million Ugandan Shillings (UGX 2,000,000) to Mukono Diocese through the Bishop’s office.
The day began with a spirit of celebration as Bishop Matovu, accompanied by a delegation from Mukono Diocese, arrived at Lugazi Campus. The new class block – a modern, spacious facility designed to ease overcrowding and improve the learning environment – was officially opened with a ribbon‑cutting ceremony led by the Bishop. He then moved through the classrooms, offering prayers of dedication for every desk, every window, and every future lesson.
In his address to staff, students, and parents, Bishop Matovu praised the school’s commitment to holistic education. “I have come to commission a building, but I see more than bricks. I see a community that values both the mind and the spirit,” he said. He urged learners to use the facility well, reminding them that many children in Uganda still study under trees.
But the most touching moment came when the Chairman Board Of Governors , on behalf of the entire Naalya family, announced a donation of Two Million Shillings to Mukono Diocese. “Your Lordship, we cannot receive a blessing without giving back,” he said. “This small token is our way of supporting the diocese’s ongoing work in education, evangelism, and community upliftment.”
Bishop Matovu received the donation with visible emotion. He thanked the school administration, the Board of Directors, and the students for their generosity. “This money will go directly to supporting vulnerable children in our diocese schools, as well as to maintenance of our ageing church structures. May God multiply your giving,” he said. He then pronounced a special blessing over the entire Naalya community – from Lugazi to our other campuses.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks from the Ditector’s Reprsentative to Lugazi Campus, followed by a reception where guests interacted with teachers and student leaders. Many parents present expressed pride in the school’s dual commitment: investing in quality infrastructure while remembering the wider church community.
Naalya Secondary Schools remain dedicated to our motto: For Greater Horizons – and that includes integrity of the heart, which gives as it receives.
